together, we will make new York state stronger and Safer than ever before!
The prison system is flawed and broken... it has become more of a paid retreat for criminals than a deterrent.
The power has slipped from the Officers to the inmates.
Under my watch we will begin to eliminate the practice of warehousing inmates and closing much needed facilities throughout NY.
I will cooperate and work hand in hand with the unions that help run the facilities.
Double bunking inmates is a proven dangerous practice and will be one of the first things I address.
Closing facilities to make it appear that crime is down to further an agenda will be the next thing addressed... the new bail reform laws have proven this to be false... crime is up, significantly.
I will enact the secured vendor program that was pushed aside in the past... notoriously, contraband introduced to correctional facilities is done by packages from inmates’ visitors and home.
Officers are severely outnumbered... and the practice of 1 Officer per 40-50+ inmates to watch and monitor... will cease under my direction. We will hire more Correction Officers and implement better training, equipment and resources to help maintain a professional and safer work environment for all Officers and staff as well as the inmate population.
The Officers now are buried under so much paperwork they barely have time to watch and properly monitor the inmates...I will trim the paperwork to efficiency.
No longer will there be “lock outs” over frivolous things, such as forgetting a cell phone on your person. If you enter the lobby and forget you had in on you, you will be allowed to take it back to your vehicle with no harm done. The bad practice of locking Good Officers out on a whim will cease.
The power of a ticket will be enforced by the Brass... any ticket should and will be tiered and a hearing set. No more “ripping” up tickets because a supervisor feels that it is not good enough... the hearing Officer at his or her discretion will determine if it is to be discharged or not, then a form forwarded to the Dep of Security as to why it was dismissed.
The Officers have been put on the back burner far too long...I will implement some motivational techniques for the Officers morale... such as allowing men to wear beards as long as they are neatly trimmed and not part of a specialized unit such as C.E.R.T., gas booths, etc.
I will look into eliminating the ridiculous “occasion” system for sick time... if you earn your sick time... it should be up to the Officer on when they should be able to use it... especially if the Officers have family... you cannot determine when you, your significant other or children get sick, for what duration and how often.
We will look into broadening the program facilities for non violent offenders, along with qualified councilors and Psychiatric professionals more readily available to properly evaluate and help determine the best course of action to help the offender lead a better and productive life outside after their incarceration.
The more programs and rehabilitation the inmates have available to them helps to ensure their chance of success when released.
These are but just a few examples of what to expect if I am appointed elected for NYS Governor. With my leadership and pro stance on Law Enforcement and our civil liberties... together we can make NY great and a leader once again in the nation.
